Job overview:
We have a vacancy for a Clinical Coder/Scanner to join our friendly and forward-thinking practice. The role is suitable for individuals who enjoy data input, coding and filtering correspondence to the most appropriate team members to help maximise patient care. The post holder will be able to apply excellent attention to detail, have good IT skills, be an effective time manager and be able to prioritise their workload effectively whilst ensuring the document management process is accurate and completed to a high standard in line with practice policy and procedures.
The role also involves working closely with all members of the Practice’s Administrative and Clinical teams.
Job Description & Person Specification Clinical Coder/Scanner:
· To input patient information on to clinical systems, oversee the administration of patient records and systems and ensure data quality. Code and link each problem appropriately into a patients record, paper or electronic.
· Ensure that the filing and recording of patient information is promptly handled with care and in line with practice policies and procedures
· Workflow to appropriate team/clinician for detailed actions identified on the correspondence
· Computer data entry/data allocation and collation; processing and recording information in accordance with the practice procedures
· Participate in ongoing formal training in accordance with national standards and Practice requirements to update and maintain skills and knowledge.
· Promote and improve awareness of clinical coding, communicating to clinical and management staff the complex rules of coding and its financial effects.

Qualifications and Experience
· Educated to GCSE level of equivalent
· Experience of IT systems including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
· Experience with EMIS Web
· Understanding of the Clinical Coding process
· Ability to understand a range of medical terminology
· Experience of coding in Primary Care
