Salaried GP Vacancy: Grangewood Surgery

Grangewood Surgery, Shiney Row, Tyne and Wear

4-8 session Salaried GP

Closing date 13th April 2026

Grangewood Surgery is situated at the south end of Washington, near to the famous landmark of Penshaw monument. There are excellent transport links to Newcastle, Sunderland and Durham with the A1M and A19 a few minutes away in either direction.

Shiney Row is a large former mining village with a very stable community and a significant amount of new housing.

We currently have a vacancy for a salaried GP due to retirement, and we are flexible about the number of sessions that you may wish to work. There will be an opportunity to progress to partnership if desired.

The practice workload is well managed with 15 minute appointments and 25 routine appointments each day, with minimal visiting allowing more time with patients.

We have a track record of involvement in new and innovative ways of delivering care, often through multidisciplinary working. We are actively involved in our local PCN which is helping to deliver this (one of our partners is the Clinical Director), and through him we have a lead role in future developments with the forthcoming changes in primary care and neighbourhood development. As a result, we have excellent local working relationships.

We engage actively with PCN’s and practices across the city as well, and one partner is the LMC Chair.

As a practice we provide a friendly and supportive environment, and we feel this contributes to our low staff turnover and the excellent working relationships within our team. We meet daily for coffee and monthly for an afternoon of protected time for a practice CPD meeting, in addition to providing time for personal PDP activity, as per standard BMA contract terms.

We feel our practice size contributes significantly to the development of good working relationships and importantly, good continuity of care, allowing the development of close doctor/patient relationships over protracted timescales. We felt that this was an important factor in the practice recently being listed amongst the highest scoring practices in the ICB region for patient satisfaction in the latest NHS national patient survey and we were commended by the ICB Chair and Chief Executive for our achievement.

We take a pro-active and innovative approach to the health of our population and have received recognition for this as one of the only practices in the North East and Yorkshire reaching lipid targets in hypertension.

Our GPs have specialist interests including medical education, musculoskeletal medicine, respiratory medicine, ENT, women's health and diabetes. We are actively involved with the local frailty team and Care homes in the area.

We welcome and would support the development of any special interest working.

You are welcome to speak to any of the partners or our practice manager if more information is required and you would be very welcome to come along and meet us for an informal chat and look around.
