Dr Roger Ford
Born and bred in South Shields I went to Medical School at Manchester University. My first medical job was in 1979 in Sunderland General Hospital, and I became a GP partner in the city in 1983. I was a GP trainer for 20 years.
Other past roles include Chairman of Sunderland RCGP, a PCG Chairman, and a GP member of Sunderland PCT executive board. I also worked as an adviser to the NHS Ombudsman and was an appointed GMC adviser.
I have been a member of Sunderland LMC since 1983 and am a previous Chairman. I have been Honorary Secretary of the LMC for 15 years.
I am currently Chairman of the North East & Cumbria Regional LMC and the GPC representative for Northumberland, Tyne & Wear. Both are elected positions.
I’m married to a retired Physiotherapist and have three daughters who all work as local Pharmacists.
I joined the LMC in 2002 and my role has evolved since then.
I have responsibility for managing the business and financial affairs of the organisation and am the first point of contact for the GPs and general practices that we represent.
I am also the Administrator for Gateshead & South Tyneside LMC, Newcastle & North Tyneside LMC and the North East & North Cumbria Regional LMC, which means I have good overview of what’s happening across the patch.
